A New Base Camp in the Heart of the Monte Rosa Massif
At an elevation of 3,175 meters, at Alta Luce, above Gressoney-La-Trinité, the Remo Passera Bivouac welcomes hikers and mountaineers to one of the most breathtaking settings in the Monte Rosa Massif.
Inaugurated on July 22, 2026, the new bivouac was created as a base and refuge for those who experience the mountains, with a particular focus on safety, respect for the environment, and the quality of hospitality at high altitude.
The structure was designed to have a low environmental impact and is energy self-sufficient thanks to a photovoltaic system and a small wind turbine.
The bivouac is located along Trail 7C, which leads to Alta Luce, just before the bell at the end of the route. It is dedicated to the memory of mountain guide Remo Passera, a figure closely tied to the history of mountaineering and the development of tourism in Gressoney-La-Trinité.
The Mountain Hut
The Remo Passera Mountain Hut has 10 beds and offers basic yet comfortable accommodations, designed to provide functional shelter in a high-mountain environment.
Inside, there is a living area with a table, chairs, and benches, as well as a small kitchenette equipped with an electric hotplate and cooking utensils.
The sleeping area has 10 berths in bunk beds, complete with mattresses, mattress covers, sheets, blankets, and pillows. You must bring and use your own sleeping bag liner.
What to Know Before You Go
The bivouac:
has no running water;
does not have restroom facilities;
has no water sources in the immediate vicinity;
has electricity, but with limited capacity;
requires that you remove your hiking boots before entering the interior; slippers are available;
has an outdoor terrace equipped with tables and benches, which is freely available for use.
It is therefore essential to arrive at the bivouac with an adequate supply of water and all the necessary equipment for an overnight stay at high altitude.
How to Reserve the Remo Passera Bivouac
Unlike traditional open-access bivouacs, reservations are required to stay overnight at the Remo Passera Bivouac.
The system allows you to reserve your spot in advance and access the facility using a QR code or a personal numeric code.
1. Book online
When booking, you must specify:
arrival date · departure date · number of beds occupied
The fee is €10 per person per night.
The system generates a PagoPA payment notice, which is sent to the email address provided during booking.

2. Receive your access code
After payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing:
QR code + numeric code
Both are valid for the booked period and allow you to open the door to the shelter’s interior.
3. Enter the shelter
Check-in from 2:00 PM
Check-out by 10:00 AM
Once you arrive, enter the entrance hall, which is always accessible. To the right of the interior door is the keypad with a card reader.
To open the door, simply enter the numeric code or scan the QR code you received via email.
Did you make your reservation directly at the mountain hut?
The system synchronizes every 15 minutes. If you made your reservation after arriving at the mountain hut, access may not be immediate.
A shelter that’s always accessible in case of an emergency
Although access to the interior spaces is regulated by reservation, the entrance vestibule remains open at all times.
In the event of an emergency or adverse weather conditions, it therefore provides initial shelter. Inside, you’ll also find a phone number to call for instructions on how to access the bivouac’s facilities.

Reaching the Remo Passera Bivouac means entering a true high-mountain environment.
Altitude, weather conditions, and the nature of the route require preparation, appropriate gear, and a careful assessment of conditions before setting out.
The bivouac is a shared resource: use it with care, minimize energy consumption, carry your trash back down to the valley, and leave the area in the best possible condition for those who come after you.
